Our Mission

Why We Built Recovery Ranked

Recovery Ranked grew out of a simple, frustrating observation: when people needed help finding a rehab center — for themselves, a parent, a child, a friend — what they found online was a maze of paid directories, sponsored listings, and marketing copy dressed up as editorial content.

That didn't feel right to us. People in vulnerable moments deserve honest, clearly-reasoned guidance — not a ranking that goes to the highest bidder.

So we built the site we wished existed: an independent, editorial guide to America's top rehabilitation centers, written by researchers and journalists who care more about your outcome than any facility's marketing budget.

"No facility can pay us to appear in our rankings. Full stop. Our research process is the only thing that determines who makes the list."

People first

Every word we write starts from empathy. We know that the person reading our rankings might be in one of the hardest moments of their life.

Editorial integrity

We research facilities the same way a journalist investigates a story — rigorously, independently, and without accepting payment for placement.

Honest guidance

We say what we find, including the hard stuff. You deserve a full picture, not a polished brochure.

What We Stand For

Our People-First Principles

These aren't just editorial guidelines — they're the promises we make to every reader who comes to us in search of answers, hope, and a path forward.

Dignity for Every Reader

We write for people in one of life's hardest moments — and every word reflects that. We use people-first language, avoid stigmatizing terms, and frame recovery as the hopeful, courageous journey it truly is. You'll never find shame or judgment here.

Plain Language, Always

Recovery is complex enough without a website that talks over your head. We translate clinical criteria, accreditation standards, and treatment modalities into clear, everyday language — so you can make informed decisions without needing a medical dictionary.

No Pay-to-Rank. Ever.

Our rankings are earned, not purchased. Facilities cannot pay to appear in our lists or to move up in the rankings. Every position is based solely on our published editorial criteria — giving you an honest, unbiased view of the landscape.

Our Commitment

Hopeful Framing — Because Recovery Is Possible

Every article, ranking, and review we publish is written with one conviction: that recovery is real, and the right support makes all the difference. We focus on what works, what to look for, and how to take the next step — never dwelling on what's gone wrong. Because the people who read us deserve a starting point filled with possibility, not fear.

Our Promise to Readers

Independent Research. No Pay-to-Rank. Ever.

The most common concern people have about ranking sites is a fair one: "Did someone pay to be at the top?" The answer at Recovery Ranked is an unequivocal no — and here's exactly what that means in practice.

Two people reviewing research data together at a desk

When you're looking for help for yourself or someone you love, the last thing you need is a list shaped by advertising budgets. Recovery Ranked was built on a different premise entirely: the people searching for rehabilitation deserve the same rigor and independence they'd expect from any trusted editorial publication.

Our editorial team researches, evaluates, and ranks facilities using publicly available accreditation data, peer-reviewed outcomes research, on-the-ground reporting, and a defined set of criteria. A facility's ranking reflects our assessment of its quality of care — nothing else.

Bottom line: facilities cannot pay us to appear, to rank higher, or to receive a positive review. If they could, we wouldn't be worth reading.

Rankings Are Earned, Not Bought

Every facility on our site earns its position through our editorial evaluation process — full stop. There is no premium placement, no sponsored rankings, and no "featured" tier that money can unlock.

No Pay-to-Rank. Ever.

We've never accepted payment — from a facility, an operator, or anyone else — to influence where a center appears. If a facility contacts us offering payment, the conversation ends there.

Transparent Methodology

Our criteria are published openly so you can evaluate our reasoning yourself. We want you to understand exactly how we assess care quality, accreditation, outcomes data, and accessibility.
